You may have better luck with virtual surround sound by plugging the headphones directly into your computer audio jacks and experimenting with the Dolby Access and DTS Sound Unbound apps from the Microsoft Store. Modern Warfare does not have a Headphone mix in the audio settings, but I still found that pure stereo (LGS surround off) provided the best competitive sound accuracy. For instance, CSGO has a headphone HRTF setting under audio settings, so use that instead. If the game has built in Headphone/HRTF mix settings, use those and leave LGS Surround turned off. When I tried DTS Surround, everything sounded off, so I didn't have any luck with that.
